After creating your own WordPress site, you need to think about saving its current state and be sure that nothing that’s been done is lost.

But before we start, I would like to list under what circumstances Backup and Restore plugins will be useful for us:

  • Hacker attack. It is extremely difficult to find all the hacked and infected files in your site and it is of course much easier to restore the previously created backup.
  • Errors on hosting. Even the best of us are mistaken. There were cases when the hosting “accidentally” deleted the site completely and the person could not restore the latest version. Therefore, it is important not only to have a backup but also to store it remotely, for example on a dropbox.
  • Error while updating. It happens infrequently, but it happens. For example, a theme or plugin was updated and something went wrong. It’s always faster and easier to restore a backup than repairing a breakdown.
  • Errors in the development – you make changes to the theme files and something went wrong. The solution is the same – backup.
  • Transferring a site to another hosting/domain/subdomain – when you change the domain name of a site (URL) and/or a hosting provider – the best way to transfer a site is to restore it from backup, but already in a new location.

Here is a list of proven tools that will help warn you against the above problems with the site.

1. Blog Vault

One of the best hosting for WordPress – WP ENGINE uses this service to transfer sites from other hosting sites (that says a lot). In addition, this is the favorite Cloud service of many developers.

  • Simple backup and restore from a copy
  • Fast and professional technical support
  • “Test recovery” option
  • Automatic backups on a schedule

2. Backup Buddy

The most popular and one of their best tools for backups (backups), which is worth their money.

  • Backup sites of all sizes
  • Automatic backups on a schedule
  • Simple backup recovery
  • Excellent technical support
  • Ability to save backups remotely on the cloud, or on your clouds, for example, Dropbox

3. Duplicator

Easy to use. For beginners, for anyone. The plugin is extremely sensitive to hosting, any deviations in the hosting settings lead to errors and the inability to create a backup.

  • Only “light” sites (usually less than 500MB) in the free version
  • User-friendly interface
  • Great for site transfers

4. UpdraftPlus

Very popular with WordPress users, especially the free version. Although the premium version has many additional useful features, like backups on a schedule and remote preservation on the cloud.

  • Many options to save backups remotely
  • Very detailed interface
  • Automatic backups on a schedule
  • Support for large sites (even literally “huge”)

5. XCloner

  • Support for large sites
  • Many options to get a successful result on virtually any hosting
  • Great for site transfers

If you are not already using a backup for WordPress, we recommend you to select one of the options listed above, as soon as possible. Good luck!
